A player in social tourism and a meeting and accommodation centre (CRH) for many years, the Domaine de Villers-Ste-Gertrude is nestled in the picturesque village of the same name, on the heights of Durbuy. With its buildings of different capacities made of natural stone, we welcome a diverse and varied public every day of the year: families, groups, associations, schools, etc. Surrounded by a 4 ha arboretum and close to hiking trails, our estate with its enchanting setting will undoubtedly delight lovers of nature and beautiful stones…
The castle of Villers-Ste-Gertrude, was during centuries the impassive witness of the negotiations and intrigues of the Lords of Villers. By the play of medieval carvings, this large estate on the banks of the Ourthe river became part of the heritage of the abbesses of Nivelles who left the name of their founder, “Gertrude de Nivelles”.
The castle continued to pass from one owner to another (the abbesses ceded the estate in 1620) until the commune of Durbuy granted it in 1977 to the General Commissariat for Tourism which, from 1981 to 1984, renovated and transformed it with a view to rural tourism.
This was followed by the creation of our association in 1985, its integration into the Kaleo network in 2009 (formerly CBTJ – Les Gîtes d’Etape) and our first CRH recognition in 2013 !
We are pleased to announce that we have become partners of Famenne-Ardenne Unesco Global Geopark !
